Reiki is pure energy, and brings about deep relaxation and healing.
Reiki, meaning "universal life force energy", aims to improve health and
enhance the quality of life and is accessed by the practitioner during a
treatment. It treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit
and creates many beneficial effects including relaxation and feelings of peace,
security and wellbeing. Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual
healing and self-improvement that everyone can use.
Reiki can improve the results of all medical treatment, acting to reduce negative
side effects, shorten healing time, reduce or eliminate pain, reduce stress,
and help create optimism. Reiki doesn't interfere with or diminish the
intended effects of other health or medical practices.
During a Reiki treatment, the patient usually lies fully clothed on a padded
table in a warm, comfortable room.
Due to its gentle nature, many people fall asleep during this soothing
experience of healing. The technique is non invasive yet powerful, and
completely safe for everyone.

Reiki can help
Reiki is a spiritual practice and healing art. Reiki, as we
know it today, began in the early 1900s. It is recorded that through study,
research and meditation by a Japanese man, Mikao Usui, who had an experience of
empowerment that led to the development of Reiki as a healing system. Usui
devoted the rest of his life to practising and teaching this art of living and
Over time the system of Reiki healing developed by Mikao
Usui has evolved, or been changed, by subsequent teachers. Today a number of
different forms, or branches, of Reiki are practised worldwide. A common
element of many forms of Reiki is a set of principles or precepts. While there
are variations in the expression and interpretation of the precepts, they are all
based on the original teachings of Mikao Usui.
"The true purpose of the Reiki method is to correct the
heart-mind, keep the body fit, and lead a happy life using the spiritual
capabilities humans are endowed with since birth."
The Five Precepts
Recite the five
precepts morning and evening, and keep them in one's heart. Today, throughout
the entire day:
What might I experience?
The experience of Reiki is subjective, changeable, and sometimes very subtle.
People often experience heat in the practitioner's hands, but sometimes the
practitioner's hands feel refreshingly cool. Other common experiences are
subtle pulsations where the practitioner's hands are placed or cascading waves
of pulsations throughout the body.
People often comment how comforting they find the experience of Reiki i to be.
An interesting study reported that recipients frequently feel that they are
hovering in a threshold state of consciousness, simultaneously aware of their
surroundings and deeply indrawn. Some people fall into a deep, sleep like
meditative state. Sometimes the experience of Reiki is dramatic, while for
other people, the first session in particular may be uneventful, although they
feel somehow better afterward. The most common experience is an almost
immediate release of stress and a feeling of deep relaxation.
Reiki is cumulative and even people who don't notice much
the first time usually have progressively deeper experiences if they continue.
Besides the immediate experience of the Reiki, you may notice other changes
that continue to unfold as the day goes on: perhaps stronger digestion, a sense
of being more centered and poised and less reactive, and sleeping deeply that night.
A Reiki session may sometimes bring up emotions or memories
of experiences from your past, some of which you may have forgotten about. This
is part of the Reiki healing process and is there to allow you to release and
grow. We are only reminded of these feelings and events because we are strong
enough and ready to face them again. For Reiki to work, it is not necessary for
you to feel the energy. The energy goes where it is needed and will work on
whatever energy level is needed. Reiki heals on your physical, emotional,
mental and spiritual levels to bring harmony and balance into your life.
During A Session?
During the Reiki healing session the practitioner will place her hands lightly
on or slightly above different parts of your body. Some Reiki practitioners
will follow a predetermined sequence of hand placements, allowing their hands
to rest on or slightly above each body placement for about 2 to 5 minutes, before
moving on to the next. Sometimes more time at each placement is needed and the
practitioner will be guided to stay there for as long as necessary. Empathic
practitioners will freely move their hands in no particular order to the areas
where they "feel" Reiki is most needed. Reiki responds uniquely to
each person and works according to the level of acceptance that person
maintains. This treatment option is most suited for open-minded people who tend
to adopt innovative treatments. Permission is also necessary because Reiki
energy will not override a person's free will.
Reiki energy is guided by the highest intelligence and always heals what is
most important first. It will help to heal what the client is able to deal with
at that time. It is like peeling back the layers of an onion. You cannot remove
the bottom layer without first peeling back all of the top layers. Reiki
energy, guides the practitioner as to what to do to bring the highest good to
the client. The Reiki practitioner cannot promise the client any
"specific" results since everyone is uniquely different in how they
respond to the Reiki healing energies. But can promise that every person that
experiences a Reiki treatment, receives healing benefits.
Some Things You May Experience During A
Some fall asleep
Some warmth, cold or
a tingling sensation from the Reiki energy
Gurgling and sounds
from your stomach
Most experience a
reduction in pain or sometimes an elimination of the pain in first session
Some more sensitive
people may even have spiritual or visual experience
This is just a short list of what someone may experience during a session.
Everyone is different and deals with healing differently.
Keeping in mind that not everyone feels or sees things during treatments and
that this is not an indication that the treatment is working or not. Reiki
healing ALWAYS occurs and you may or may not feel what is happening. And it is
said that sometimes when all is calm and quite that this is when the most
profound healing is occurring.
Reiki and the techniques I use are non-religious – you
do not have to believe in anything other than your own beliefs.
The techniques are also able to be used safely in conjunction with
other medical and holistic treatments such as medication, counselling and
physical rehabilitation. All sessions aim to help you to relax, re-balance and
leave the session feeling refreshed and empowered within yourself.
Sometimes people can experience a need to release emotions during or after a
Reiki session. Reiki can often reawaken emotions that have been retained
in the body for a while and that need to be released. Such emotions include
sadness, anger or grief. This is a positive healing reaction. You should feel
able to release such emotions without judgement. We are working together in a
safe and confidential way and you will be supported fully if an emotional
After the session is finished, you may feel sleepy or energised. You will be
offered water to rehydrate. As you slowly come back to a normal state of
consciousness we will discuss any concerns and any guidance received during the
Reiki session. This is an opportunity to ask any questions for clarity or
assistance. Please feel able to contact me at any time after your session, if
you need to discuss anything further.
